Dryer Switch

Here Rapid Repair bonds chemically to the broken plastic. The switch was fixed once before and only lasted 3 or 4 months before it broke again. So, this time I did a composite repair.

To drill a hole in both directions down the shaft of the switch and have it line up so that a length of nail could be added, I clamped a scrap 2X4 to my drill press. The small end of the switch measured 3/16, so that hole was drilled and the broken piece supported in it and drilled with a bit slightly larger than the nail. Note that the nail is being added to the larger part of the shaft that measures 1/4 inch.

Because the brake had a slope to it, it was difficult to not have the drill bit wander down slope. To minimize this, lightly tapping the drill bit against the plastic eventually created a cavity that would allow drilling with a minimum of error.

After this half was drilled, the 3/16 inch hole was drilled out to 1/4 inch and the other larger piece inserted and drilled. A little Rapid Repair mixed so that it would flow down the hole and the repair is complete and should outlast the drier.
